A very big secret that I found to be the most successful thing for me in reducing my own acne was so simple it was almost laughable.

I had huge success by scrubbing my face less. When I washed my face I used quite a strong face wash but I didn’t rub my face. I patted it gently.

When I started doing this, I noticed a big difference in my skin after just one week. A couple of weeks later the difference was really clear.

The problem I think, is that the face wash industry is so big and they are constantly trying to sell us the next miracle acne cure that we lose sight of how we should use these products.

We ‘re told that you need to clean deep down into the pores, and so because of that, the majority of people will scrub to get really deep down into the pores.

From my experience I’ve found that this is the absolute worst thing to do because it really aggravates my skin and the spots I already have, making them much worse.

It took me a few years to realise this, but it was the biggest discovery I’ve made.

At one point in my life my face was completely covered with spots. I’m talking about not being able to see skin for the amount of redness. Spots were covering every part of my face.

I’ve been free from that situation for a couple of years now but I still just softly touch my face when I wash it. I never rub it.

It’s really worked for me, it was perhaps the best thing I ever did.

Simple solutions are often the best

You’re probably thinking it seems too good to be true, but until you try something you’ll never know. That’s one of the ways I got rid of my acne, by constantly trying new things until I found something, or a combination of things that worked.

I combined that washing technique with a healthy diet, drinking lots of water and exercise, but personally the first step was to not aggravate my skin my rubbing it whilst washing it.

Don’t touch your face

Something that goes hand in hand with not aggravating your skin is to limit the amount you touch your face.

Touching your face with your hands just takes bacteria from your hands and puts in on your face.

Now that can’t be a good thing as it’ll get into your pores. When I stopped touching my face I also saw an improvement in my skin.

Another benefit of that was that I found I was getting less colds and flu viruses.

That’s because the number one way that these viruses spread is by people putting their hands to their faces where the viruses that might be on their hands can get into their blood stream through their nose and eyes.

Just remember to be careful with your skin. If you really want to get rid of your spots, changing some of your habits can make a big difference.

Spots can be the most frustrating and annoying problem. If you suffer from spots on your face you’re not alone in having enough with it and deciding to do something about it.

One of the problems with suffering from spots is that you think they are so visible.

If spots were on your elbow or somewhere else less visible you wouldn’t be worried at all, but they’re right there on your face and everyone’s looking at them. So you think.

No-ones that bothered about you

The truth is that people aren’t that bothered about you and what you look like. They are more concerned about themselves.

Do you have friends with spots? Or do you see other people with spots? Do you take much notice of them? I bet the only reason you take notice of their spots is because you’re worried about your own spots.

If you weren’t even thinking about spots you would have hardly given it a second thought that they had spots.

Realise that no-one really cares that much about how you look.

People spend most of their time worrying about themselves. You’re doing the same thing now and you’re no different from other people.

You make it worse in your mind

Quite often when you look at a spot on your face, in your mind you will make it look a lot worse than it is.

Other people looking at you probably won’t give it a second thought, the truth is they probably won’t even notice it and if they do notice it they won’t care. Honestly they really won’t care, your spot has no impact on other people’s lives so it’s not important to them.

Anxiety just creates more spots

The more anxious you get about having spots, the more you’ll get spots. It’s a fact that stress causes spots. The more you get stressed about your spots, the more spots you’ll get, it’s a vicious circle.

If you accept your spots and learn to think of them as part of you, something amazing will happen. Your spots will start to go away.

Your probably thinking that this is crazy, spots don’t just go away because of your thinking. But more and more research highlights how the power of your mind has a direct impact on your life and that means things like your spots.

What you resist persists

Just relax and let go of all the tension and anxiety you’re creating around your spots. Love your spots, be creative, you’re desperate to get rid of your spots right so why not try talking to them!

It sounds crazy but some people have had great results doing this. Tell them that you love them, that you know they’ll be gone soon but you also know that they are part of you, and you completely accept and forgive them.

This kind of thinking will probably mean you have to take a big shift in your attitude. Go on just try it and see if you can cure your spots with the power of your mind.

If you don’t believe this could work, look at some spiritual books in the book shop, there are numerous stories of people who have cured themselves of diseases by thinking is a similar way to this.

Surprisingly there is no actual real evidence to say that certain types of food causes spots.

If you’re anything like me though, you don’t really believe that though do you?

Personally I have found that eating certain types of food causes spots.

If I eat lots of chocolate for example, I’ll get spots, if I eat junk food I’ll get spots. It’s always been the same for me and I’m sure other people have similar experiences with their spots.

A Healthy Diet is a great way to start

You might not want to hear this and it’s pretty boring but if you’re desperate to get rid of your spots you should start to eat healthier.

There may not be a strong scientific link between certain foods and acne but just about everyone knows that a healthy diet helps reduce your spots.

Nutrients

You need to have a diet that is balanced in nutrients and minerals. I don’t believe in getting specific and telling you what nutrients you should have because the danger is that if you read that a certain nutrient is good for your skin you will focus on that.

The best thing to do is eat a wide variety of food, including fruit and vegetables and you will get a balanced level of nutrients which will be beneficial for your skin.

Everything in Moderation

Too much saturated fat, too much refined sugar, and too much of anything is going to make your skin worse. Even too much fruit isn’t good for you.

Treat yourself to a fatty or sugary snack every now and then, but just make sure that most of the time you are balancing that with fruit, vegetables, nuts and as much variety as you can.

Life would be really boring if we couldn’t treat ourselves to food we really like every now and again so you probably don’t have to cut out bad fats altogether.

Fibre

Make sure there’s enough fibre in your diet. Fibre will help your digestion and may help clear out any toxins in your system that clog up and lead to more spots.

Water

Drink a good amount of water and try to avoid fizzy drinks. If you drink water your skin will start to look better because toxins will start to be cleansed from your system. Just don’t go overboard and drink massive quantities of water.

Try to avoid caffeine as much as possible as well.

Processed food

Eating processed food might cause and worsen your acne so if you can, try to eat unprocessed whole food as much as possible.

All the above tips are ways that might help you beat acne by improving your diet.

The other benefits of having a diet like that are that you might get healthier, lose weight and be fitter too.

If you have spots, whether you like it or not, you will have probably inherited your susceptibility to them from your family.

Ask your Mum or Dad if they had them, or if their parents had them and you will see a pattern.

It’s unusual not to, and if you don’t see a pattern you might be in a good position to get rid of your spots because it could be something in your diet, your environment or something else you’re doing that’s causing them, so you have more control.

If your spots are hereditary there’s not much you can do about that but you can make your life easier and reduce your spots by improving your diet, doing more exercise and not thinking about hating your spots and getting stressed about them every day of your life.

Easier said than done right.

Not really, it just requires a change in your thinking to change simple things like your diet, your exercise routine and your mind set towards your spots.

Don’t give up

Be Proactive

Yes it’s annoying that your Mum or Dad passed their acne down to you, but you can still do something about it.

Your spots are part of you, you wouldn’t be the same without them. If you start thinking like this, thinking that your spots aren’t actually so bad, you might see them going away.

You get more of what you think about. If you constantly think about spots the chances are that you will get more of them.

If you forget about your spots they will start to go away.

Your mind is a very powerful tool. If you are always thinking about how bad your spots are, you’re subconscious mind is picking up on that and finding ways to give you more spots.

If you forget about them completely you might not have the problem for much longer.

Just try it, you’ll probably feel less stressed as a result and we know that stress causes spots and makes them worse.

Three out of four people have experienced spots in their lives.

It’s just that some people experience spots to a different degree than other people, which does distort those figures.

One person might have suffered from acne but only had a few spots when they were a teenager.

Another person might say they suffer from acne and they really did suffer badly for a number of years.

Lots of people are probably feeling the same way as you about their spots.

You probably feel on your own but there are so many people in your situation, maybe even someone you know.

People just don’t talk to each other about their problems with spots so it can make you feel like you’re the only one who is desperate to get rid of them.

You can do something about them

Despite feeling hopeless sometimes, remember there are things you can do about your spots.

There are lots of treatments available and there are also simple things you can do to improve your spots.

Improve your diet, sunbathe less, do more exercise, don’t scrub your face when you wash it, reduce your stress levels, don’t touch your face with your hands. The list goes on and on. This site has lots of ways to help you.

Sometimes you need to be proactive about the changes you make to your way of thinking and have a healthier lifestyle.

You might resolve to tell yourself that you will stop touching your face excessively.

Lots of people have spots, some aren’t worried at all by them and some absolutely hate them and want to get rid of their spots as soon as they can.

The people who aren’t particularly worried about their spots probably won’t have them for long.
These people aren’t stressing about them and creating anxiety in their minds about their acne which just makes it worse.
